How to live a happy healthy, abundant and meaningful
3rd Act.

Have you ever felt, as the traditional age for “retirement” approaches, that for the next 20-30 years there has to be more to life than just sitting around watching day-time TV, or checking FaceBook, or playing endless rounds of golf or bridge, or sitting on the beach watching the sun set with a beer or wine in hand? (maybe more of the last one wouldn’t be all that bad though…) In other words – just “waiting for God!”?
Or are you thinking maybe you’re going to be bored out of your brain in no time at all? For example, a study in the U.K. by the Skipton Building Society found four out of ten retirees said the novelty of staying at home wore off in less than a year and they felt they were no longer intellectually challenged.
Have you ever felt that maybe you’ll run out of money? Well you’re in good company – more than 40 per cent of pre-retirees aged over 55 have no plan for funding their retirement (according to a recent survey by Australian research group CoreData).
What about an unexpected health scare – not that there’s usually an expected health scare – that results in sudden unplanned expenses and perhaps long term care? The American Department of Health and Human Services reported that two out of every three Americans turning 65 this year will require long-term care at some point in their lifetime.
These are the top fears people have as they approach lifes’ 3rd Act (life beyond 60)
- Boredom
- Broke – not enough money
- Broken – Health & wellbeing issues
Let’s just think for a moment – ageing is inevitable, is it not?. However, how you age is not. We will all very likely spend about three decades of our life as an older person. Deal with it. Death is the only alternative.
Traditional retirement is going away, even if it hasn’t died out completely quite yet. It’s also quite feasible that our “3rd Act” – will actually be longer than our working career.
By taking a different approach and thinking ReWiring rather than ReTiring, we can live a rich, happy and meaningful life in our 3rd Act – inspired and excited that the best is yet to come.
